When asked to name his biggest influences in Country music, Ricky Dean Morgan quickly replied, “You know the
greats, like George Jones, Vern Gosdin or Alan Jackson. These guys are legends in Country music. When I was a
kid, I would imitate them with my hairbrush as my microphone, dancing and singing to the bathroom mirror.”
Ricky Dean Morgan was born in Hyden, Kentucky. While growing up, Ricky found himself drawn to music. After
graduation from high school, he hit the bar/band scenes and began singing and writing songs. Bouncing from
Kentucky to Indiana for a few years, he finally settled in and called Morgantown, Indiana his home. Living in
Indiana, Ricky met his wife, Casey. They have a one child, a 4-year-old boy named Nathan. Nathan was born
prematurely and with that came major complications that brought on some immediate life changes. Ricky knew
where his priorities were and put his music on hold. After a couple of years, Nathan’s health greatly improved and
with encouragement from Casey, his family and friends, Ricky Dean Morgan was ready to get back to his music. “I
knew what I wanted, I just didn’t know how to go about it.”
A chance phone call from Country music fan, W. Geno Bush, showed Ricky Dean Morgan the way. “When I heard
the feelings that poured out of Ricky when he sang, I knew this guy deserved the chance to be heard,” said W.
Geno. With the dream of wanting to become a Country music recording artist and with some Nashville
connections, Ricky was soon in the studio with well known steel guitar player and BSW Records A&R man, Jim
Vest, in the producers chair. Vest says, “When Ricky came to Nashville, I laid down one song with him and played
it for a few of my dearest friends, Max D. Barnes, Hank Cochran and Red Lane. After impressing them, I decided
to send it to Europe on Hank’s little label, A Gifted Few Records. When it went number five on the European Top
Thirty, we got all the top shelf songs we needed.” Hank Cochran has also taken a profound interest in Ricky Dean
Morgan. “If you know me, you know I love good Country music and I sure do like what Ricky is doing to it and how
he sings my song’s. When he sings one of those ballads, I get goose bumps all over,” says Cochran.
Ricky Dean Morgan’s raw, natural talent is something that cannot be measured by any one scale alone. This
young man, with his pure honey voice is well on his way to a huge career. The music is country and the name is
Ricky Dean Morgan.
